Here in typical blue and white is a herring plate by the famous de Porceleyne Fles. One of the more traditional pieces, this rectangular fish plate is a must-have for the serious delft collector. It is used to serve the typically-Dutch Herring. A herring is embossed on the dish.
Each piece made carries the full factory markings, which includes the factory mark, item number, artist's initials, and the date code of 2004. The artist, a woman, J. de Reuver, starting working at the factory in 1978. So she had been painting there for 26 years when she painted this herring plate!
This piece is approximately 9.5" long by 5.5" wide. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs.
